Kentucky ranks ninth in the United States for fire deaths and is the nation's leader in smoking-related deaths. One-third of all fire deaths in Kentucky are attributed to smoking. The overall mission of the Fire-Safe Cigarette Program is to reduce smoking-related fire deaths in Kentucky.
What is a Fire-Safe Cigarette?
A fire-safe cigarette has a reduced propensity to burn when left unattended. The most common fire-safe technology used by cigarette manufacturers is to make the paper thicker in places to act as "speed bumps" to slow down a burning cigarette.
